Lorna Kepler was beautiful and wilful, a loner who couldn't resist flirting with danger. She had also been found dead in mysterious circumstances and her death pulls Kinsey Millhone into a netherworld of deception, betrayal and unavenged murder.

This was a little bit different from the other books, darker than usual and involving some really serious heavies. Fortunately Kinsey chose to be discreet and let the bad guys sort out the even worse guy! Prior to this though she carried on in her usual manner, knocking on people's doors at all hours of the night and asking the most pointed questions. Her methods seem to work because she discovers all sorts of information and usually solves the case. I enjoy her attitude and admire her work ethic. She works endlessly long hours and eats the worst food, but it all makes for an entertaining read. But this time I missed Henry and Rosie a little. Plus there was no mention of her family that appeared out of nowhere in a previous book. I assume they haven’t disappeared just as quickly and will come back. Unfortunately the ending was a bit anti-climactic and the motive behind the murder was not crystal clear.

Thanks earthcaroleanne. Another good book in the series. Kinsey seemed to make a friend but it didn't end well.

Sending to Maranlin

I found this book as compelling and hard to put down as the others in this series I have read so far. However, I was still left with lots of questions when the book ended. Usually things are all wrapped up nicely and all becomes clear, but not this time - at least not for me!

I enjoyed this one, as I've enjoyed the others, although perhaps not quite so very much. I did have a moment of eyebrow raising, where yet again, at the ending, Kinsey finds herself in a dire situation, in cramped claustrophobic space, in mortal danger... I don't like it when things follow a pattern too closely.
Other than that, I wondered if things were going to evolve into something with Cheney - or if he was to be trusted.
I admit that perhaps I was too tired when I read the ending, but it wasn't terribly clear to me what exactly the motives of the bad guy were.. Perhaps I'll have to go read through it again.
I also wonder if the family connections will be picked up again at some point.
This is here as part of a bookcrossing spiral - it heads to Bucharest next. It may wait until the end of the month when it can be sent from France for far less money than if I post from Switzerland.
Thanks everyone, for making this spiral available. It's also a good excuse to pull from the shelves the random Kinsey Milhone books I have on the TBR pile.

Really enjoyed this one, even if it ended up taking me so long. The serving of justice is so different this time, quite a twist. I liked the humanity and lack of judgement towards the victims and their life choices. I also liked how I had no idea what was going on right until the end.

Ready to travel to the next reader - I will check if the time is right. Thanks for sharing!
