From the back cover:"February 1938. Maisie Dobbs has returned to England from war-torn Spain. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square, she is intercepted by the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release an important British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's daughter is gravely ill and his wife deceased, the Secret Service need a first-class female agent to present herself in the guise of his daughter at Dachau, on the outskirts of Munich. They want Maisie to bring home a man crucial to Britain's war plans."
Starting to read this book today.
Finished reading this book today. As always, I so enjoy reading books written by Jacqueline Winspear. This was another excellent historical fiction of the life journey for Maisie Dobbs, which took her to Munich on assignment with the Secret Service just prior to World War II. I'll be passing this book on to my sister, Maranlin, for her to enjoy.
Controlled release as I am passing this book on to my sister, Maranlin for her to read. Enjoy!
The next book in the Maisie Dobbs series has been kindly loaned to me by my sister, starrdust. Thank you!
I approached this book with some trepidation, knowing that Maisie would be interacting with Nazi officers, and the dangers that could present. Although the year is 1938, pre WWII, there is a strong Nazi presence in Munich. However, once I started reading, it was hard to put down, with some twists I did not expect. Jacqueline Winspear is an excellent writer, and each book in this series seems better than the one before, and builds on Maisie's life and character.
Returning this book to my sister, starrdust. Thank you for sharing!
My sister, Maranlin, returned this book to me today. It will be part of my permanent collection of Maisie Dobbs books written by Jacqueline Winspear. We both look forward to reading the next book in this series.
