This is one of my favorite VHD stories, so when I saw this on sale, I grabbed a copy to re-read and release. I enjoy the novels that have a heavier Weird Western feel, and this one, with a rag-tag wagon train of people, each with their own secrets, attempting to cross a desert, definitely focuses on the Frontier. There are some interesting characters here, mostly Granny Viper and Tae, and this is the first novel where we start to get a feel for the scope of the Sacred Ancestor's schemes and D's feelings about them.
