Saints and Misfits is an unforgettable debut novel that feels like a modern-day My So-Called Life...starring a Muslim teen.
There are three kinds of people in my world:
1. Saints, those special people moving the world forward. Sometimes you glaze over them. Or, at least, I do. They're in your face so much, you can't see them, like how you can't see your nose.
2. Misfits, people who don't belong. Like me - the way I don't fit into Dad's brand-new family or in the leftover one composed of Mom and my older brother, Mama's-Boy-Muhammad.
Also, there's Jeremy and me. Misfits. Because although, alliteratively speaking, Janna and Jeremy sound good together, we don't go together. Same planet, different worlds.
But sometimes worlds collide and beautiful things happen, right?
3. Monsters. Well, monsters wearing saint masks, like in Flannery O'Connor's stories.
Like the monster at my mosque.
People think he's holy, untouchable, but nobody has seen under the mask.
Except me.

Book Box 1 is back with me. I am removing a bunch of books as part of a clean up so am journaling everything so everything is accounted for and we know which box they end up in.
This book is being released into Book Box 1.
We may not be able to meet in person but our books can still unite us.

Looking for a lighter read and this might fill the bill!
This was an interesting read. Typical YA story but set in the Muslim World, of which I now realize, I know little about. I really enjoyed it Thanks Megami-no-usi
And I came back with three books from Barb's house!
I found this story particularly touching, after having spent 2 years teaching at an Islamic school. I got to know the other Kindergarten teacher very well and followed romance according to Islamic rules for her. My aide was also Muslim and I got a clearer understanding of the joys and pains of being Muslim.
Carmen came over and we had a small meetup. It was actually nice enough that we sat on my deck in the sun. Had a good visit and passed on a couple of books.
Picked this up during a visit with Peggy.
Taking this to the July bookcrossing meeting to be enjoyed by the next reader. Unfortunately I did not read but am hopefully moving and need to purge.
Returned home at the July meeting. Will see at next meeting if anyone else wants it.
