2 journalers for this copy...
I saw this book and the back description sounded really good. So i picked it up and am putting into the scifi book box.
I'm claiming this from the SF bookbox, even though it's Book 3 of a series I haven't read yet. Luckily, the book includes an extensive "What has gone before" section and a cast-list, which helps!
The book proper begins with a summary of a brutal man-vs-machine battle, and then switches to the main story, as told through the viewpoints of several characters. Given the existence of mind-control technology and duplicate-simulactrum possibilities (one of which led to a "thought he was dead but it was only a copy" scene from the previous book), I found it hard to rely on any particular sequence of events as being, shall we say, final - but the story was certainly lively, with lots of character interactions that altered the course of events.
It's always a challenge to meld galaxy-spanning action with individual human stories; I'm not sure this succeeded as well as it might have, but the ending was well done. As was the "not the ending after all" hint {wry grin}.
