I found this fair-condition softcover at a local thrift shop. It contains various historical tidbits from the Boston area, some worthy of celebration, others that live in infamy. There are some interesting connections here and there - Cotton Mather, instrumental in the Salem witch trials, had a more open-minded side when it came to early experiments in vaccination. There's a nod to Henry Knox's magnificent "noble train of artillery" that shooed the British out of Boston; to the tragic sinking of the steamer Portland; the tragic molasses flood; and much more, leading up to more recent events such as the legalization of same-sex marriage and the breaking of the "Curse of the Bambino". The book lists many monuments and plaques that would make an interesting day-trip or three.
