My fourth Kazuo Ishiguro reading experience waiting to be implemented.

24th October 2017: He is skillful and I was happy to receice the news of his nobel prize. Still, perhaps this novel did not quite open up for me. The story is deeply metaphorical and Axl and Beatrice, their story is beautiful. The end explains a lot. But how much of the other events and characters were metaphors and what did they stand for? I have not yet figured it out. It is a fantasy story, but some say the structure is not typical for fantasy novels,which I haven't a clue of because fantasy is out of my box. Ishiguro plays with the memory in this novel, too. And how marvellous is the dialogue; the civil and sophisticated style of expression; I wish I could discuss and utter like that.

Oh, I'll travel to Vantaa today and I almost forgot this book!

I've previously read a collection of short stories by Ishiguro and loved it so I just had to take this home with me from tonight's meetup – although I do have a couple of other Ishiguros on my TBR pile already :)

Some writers are said to write the same story over and over again. Having now read four Ishiguros, I'd say he's not one of those writers, although he seems to have a few favourite themes, such as love and memory, that he keeps writing about. The short story collection Nocturnes is still my favourite of his books, but at the moment I'm thinking The Buried Giant might be my #2. (The other two I've read so far are The Artist of the Floating World and When We Were Orphans.) Fantasy is not really my genre although it's gradually growing on me, and I'm left with the same questions that Joika mentions, such as did I really understand what Ishiguro wanted to say with his gentle fable, but nevertheless, I enjoyed the story and the writing very much. It will be interesting to see where Ishiguro's going to take me next (I have one more of his books on my current TBR pile, that is the Finnish translation of A Pale View of Hills).

Nocturnes has been my favourite written by Ishiguro so far. Let's see, if I love this one, too! Thank you for fulfilling my wish, Annimanni!

This was the most difficult book written by Ishiguro for me. I felt too impatient for the slow rhythm of the book and too realistic for the fantasy parts of the text. Anyway, it was a very captivating story and I loved some single parts and phrases as well as the themes about remembering, forgetting - and love. I suppose I should read this again in Finnish to understand it better.
