This is a real mix of genres, with a few similarities to Cloud Atlas. The story follows the life of Holly Sykes, starting from when she's a broken-hearted teenager who runs away from home, but also covers an ages old war between the Anchorites and the Horologists which Holly is drawn into. The book ends with a view of the near future which is horrific because it's so very believable. It's an engaging story although because of that I found the sudden switches in time a bit jarring.
