A very readable report on Crystal City, a WWII internment camp in south Texas. Ms. Russell, a journalist, has researched her material extensively, enabling her to weave a narrative that almost reads like a novel. There is a lesson here that speaks to the power of the federal government, emboldened by public hysteria, to curtail our civil rights. Ultimately and inevitably, the government concluded that internee camps served little of their intended purpose, having more negative effects than positive on all people involved. This book is a good choice for those interested in the incarceration of Japanese and Germans during WWII.
