Twinkie, Deconstructed
4 journalers for this copy...
It all starts with one fine day at the beach. Eating ice cream bars, the author and his children started reading the ingredient label on the wrapper...
"What's pol-y-sor-bate six-tee? Where does pol-y-sor-bate six-tee come from, Daddy?"
The moment when a parent has to admit his fallability to his worshipful children. However, this father decided, then and there, to find out the answers.
As there's quite a bit of chemistry and industrial manufacturing involved, some parts may get boring, despite the author's best effort (and he does an amicable job of that.) It's quite interesting to learn finally what all those ingredients are. The author did not get involved with the health concerns of those ingredients though. Maybe it's out of respect of the people who after all did generously show him around the business?
This is now going into the Biography of Things bookbox.

I picked up this book at the Kensington Day of the Book Festival, thinking of my friend J who is a MoonPie and Twinkie fan and also my vegetarian friend Robin who thinks that Twinkies are an acceptable "health" food group. I guess I'll find out. LOL! it looks like "RyeToast" has read and released this book...what a coincidence that I found it as a wild catch.
I started this book almost "exactly" a yr. ago. It's the book I read during commercials while watching Jeopardy. I hope to finish this book today for the 2020 BookCrossing 24 hour Readathon. This book is a good read and totally fascinating.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I am returning this book to fellow BC'er 6of8 for The Biography of Things BookBox.
