Got this a little while ago. Just started reading it today. I'm somewhat confused trying to get into it. It appears to be set before book 4 (The Quest). And following a very similar story to Warlock (I think). Hey ho, I'll see how it goes.
This is book 5 in this series and I'm surprised I kept going after the disappointment of wading through the 4th (The Quest). As the first 3 were amazing and everyone gets it wrong at some point, I persisted. Glad I did read this one, as it's better than The Quest... right up until the random ending. I felt the book didn't forfull the mission it sent the characters out on. Very bizarre. BUT to go back to the beginning... I really struggled to get going with this one as I took a rather unexpected backwards (in time) leap and exposes many plot inconsistencies both across the whole series and especially in this installement. It's doesn't feel like they have been written the same person. I even felt that this book had a few different authors because of the constant recapping of basic facts. My review is probably no less confusing that the book I'm complaining about haha, but it wasn't all bad. There was a little bit of Wilbur Smith sparkle and magic. We go on quite the international, ancient lands adventure with Taita and friends. There are battles, romance and interesting discoveries along the way. There is one more book recently published (Pharoah). I'll have to get me a copy now now and see if this story is continued or the one from The Quest.
Going to my first ever BookCrossing meet up. Should have been a picnic in Regents Park, but Mother Nature had better ideas. Now we are going for a pub lunch in the Allsop Arms near Marylebone/Baker Street. I have a large bag of books to share, so though it easiest to make release notes now (I really don’t want to bring any back). So go forth brave little books! Thanks for letting me read you. I hope you find many new readers to delight.
