I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone
1 journaler for this copy...
I picked this up from a free Valantine's day book display a few days after the holiday. I was grabbed by the title (a Sleater-Kinney song) and the imageon the cover. When I read the back blurb I was very intruiged.
This is a debut book by an author who until a few years ago was local to the Chicago-land area. It is a book that I had heard about when it first came out and wanted to read but then forgot about in during my day to day routines.
This seems to be a book people either love or hate over on goodreads. I fall firmly into the I loved this book camp. It is angsty and angry at times, and heartbreaking at other times. But the author's love of the music that fuels her main character's life breathes through the writing.
A fun bonus for me was spotting the Chicago music landmarks that I visited as a teenager going to all ages shows as my music tastes evolved from what my father played at home (everything) to my own particular likes and loves.
