I haven't had much chances to read so I finally finished the book yesterday. What a peculiar story! Even in cozy mysteries there's always a corpse or two, but constable Macbeth's problems are very different :D In general the police work in the Highlands seems to be very cozy indeed :)
The story had many details that made me think it was set quite a few decades back. But then Macbeth's mobile phone was mentioned :)
By the way, I totally agree with the Highlanders' opinion on newcomers: once a newcomer, always a newcomer ;) No one cares and has time to care in the city, but it's different in the countryside. Like me: my home is in Helsinki where people come and go all the time, Helsinki metropolitan area has 1.5 million inhabitants. But near our summerhouse there are families that are newcomers ("the new") to me – despite the fact that they built their houses or bought a house from our neighbours (more like: the heirs) 10–20 years, maybe even 30 years ago..
I'm not a Christmas person at all, in fact I pretty much hate the commercial Christmas which starts nowadays in Finland at the end of September (Christmas time is stretched nowadays to a quarter of a year!) when the big markets have meters and meters Christmas chocolates piled along the aisles, so I didn't mind reading this in spring. For someone else this makes of course a perfect Christmas reading :)
With the book I participate two reading challenges on the Finnish BC forum: BC Helmet 2025 -haaste (number 39) and 2025 sivua -haaste.
