I'd been wanting to read this for some time, so when I found this softcover at a local store I had to pick it up. (It's the movie tie-in edition to the 2015 film starring Bryan Cranston as Trumbo, and includes stills from the film.) The book was originally published in 1977 under the title Dalton Trumbo.

Trumbo's story was one of many tragedies resulting from the "Commie scare" McCarthy era, and the book reveals the politics and personalities behind that dark period. There are lots of behind-the-scenes looks at the movie industry, too - not always complimentary, though always interesting. Seeing how Trumbo fought his way back from his blacklisting - among other things, by penning an award-winning script under a pseudonym - and finally got to see his own name in the official credits was rewarding, and if he wasn't always an easy person to like, his talent is undeniable.
