I read some of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books years ago and remember that they were okay but not brilliant. I came across this on a free shelf while travelling and thought I'd give it a go. In the end I actually liked it more than I thought I would. I even had a little ironic grin every now and then at the nursery rhyme characters.
