Inubaka: Crazy for Dogs, Vol. 12
1 journaler for this copy...
This one's got a Pekinese on the cover and a golden Lab on the back.
Young heroine Suguri's trying to train for a dancing-with-dogs competition (a mix of agility-training and dance that looks like a fun event - if only she can get her dog Lupin to cooperate!. (Suguri's been practicing pole-dancing with her friend Chizuru, by way of getting in shape for the contest - and to allow for some fan-service-ish images as well.)
More adorable dogs, of course, including a dachshund/chihuahua cross; some discussion of the ethics and practice of dog-breeding; and some impending drama, when Suguri's mother, after hearing about the dance contest (which will be televised), warns Suguri that the man who kidnapped her as a child may still be after her... Eek!
Much of the book focuses on preparation for, and participation in, the dance contest, which is vastly entertaining. The contestants include a young blind girl with her golden lab, and an exotic dancer brought in by rival pet shop Wan Kaw, and it's all great fun to see. Woofles owner Teppei even gets a few moments to bond with his rival Motoshi; even though they are business rivals, they're both interested in giving their animals the best possible treatment.
Later in this volume, Kanako's Pomeranian Czerny gets sick - and the panels showing the little dog quivering in pain are so realistic that it hurts to see them. This one... well, just have some tissues handy, that's all I'll say...
The photos of fans' dogs at the end of the book are very cheering.
[There's a TV Tropes page here with entertaining info - but do watch out for spoilers.]
