I am a huge fan of the HBO series that Tom Hanks and Stephen Speilberg made based on this book, so picked it up one day. It is a fantastic account of one company's war, from training in the US, dropping into Normandy on D-Day, through hellish conditions on the frontline to living the easy life in post-war Germany. Ambrose is a brilliant writer, bringing alive the scenes and the characters in such a way that you feel as if you know them. While history texts can be dry or interesting, this draws you through the pages as if it were a novel, which makes the constant realisation that it is 'real' even more mindblowing. Well worth checking out. This author is one of my many recommendations.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Swapped for 'The Secret Life of Bees' at www.readitswapit.co.uk
Congratulations! You have found a travelling book. Thank you for taking the time to visit this site and letting us know what this book has been up to since it was released into the wild. I hope you enjoy reading it, but even if it isn’t your type of thing, then I’m sure there will be someone out there who will love it. This book is now yours, so feel free to keep it. However, I would be grateful if you could leave all the stickers in place and pass it on again once you’ve finished with it – you could give it to a friend, donate it to a charity shop or just leave it lying around somewhere to be picked up again by a total stranger. If you would like to get regular updates on what the book is doing in the future, then why not join Bookcrossing too…its fun, friendly and free.
Thanks again and happy reading!

This was a ReadItSwapIt swap. I'm not sure when I will have time to read it but it will be on its BookCrossing journey again when I have.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left in the phonebox library on a bike home from work.
I picked this up from the phone box library in Roecliffe because I am drawn to bookcrossing stickers, and it was a World Book Night title a couple of years ago. I'm expecting it to be hard going, however dark-draco's enthusiasm is encouraging. It's good to get out of a comfort zone.
At the same time I released Fifty Shades of Grey (I will not be reading the sequels!) and Bhowani Junction.

A book I did not enjoy - I find war themes, particularly forces-based, not my thing at all. However, it is on the World Book Night 1026 list so I gave it a chance during the doubly-ideal opportunity for reading- recovering from a broken leg during Covid lockdowns 2 and 3. It conveyed the intense training, stressful combat and hard conditions - It WAS hard going but I did finish it.
