A brilliant journey through the frailties of human confidence. An exploration of the accreditation balance of art from the creator versus the audience versus general acceptance.
Feels very real so I assume research is impeccable. A book told in reminiscence of a "great hero" but a fragile introspective man.
How much did his society curtail his greatness, how much did it contribute?
The book vocalises many questions you develop over the course of reading towards the end, but the final question about his greatness remains unasked and unanswered.
Contains a line summing up he human condition I will take to my grave, about dying young enough before you disappoint others, or yourself.

A brilliant introspection, which may be exaggerated by the Stalinist setting, but very real in all walks life; especially the modern always on media world where one's every word can be scrutinised.
