Powerful and tragic tale of a Muslim family caught up in the divergent catastrophes of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. The main figure, Mr. Zeitoun, stays behind to tend to his properties while his wife and children flee Katrina. While he is tending to people who need help and feeding abandoned animals, he is arrested and jailed for a month without being given a phone call, or access to a lawyer, on suspicion of being a looter/terrorist. While the book tells a heartwarming story of overcoming adversity, a little research uncovers a different tale, of a man (Mr. Zeitoun) who is charged with attempted murder and beating of his wife. The author of this book, Dave Eggers, has been dodging the press when asked about his portrayal of Mr. Zeitoun as a peaceful loving family man.
