Eyes of the Emperor
2 journalers for this copy...
This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and every once in a while they even write home to say what they've been doing.

Picked up another copy of this book by an author with Hawaii ties at the 2017 Punahou Carnival. (Larger photo here - after following link, click on image to zoom.)
The true events behind this story still make my brain boggle: I have some info about the history on a couple of the other copies on my BookCrossing shelf.
Sadly there appear to still be some people in our government who would approve of the sorts of racial stereotyping and profiling that led to the 100th Battalion's adventure on Cat Island...which means there's always something for the JACL to do.

I'm so glad you've found this book!
Please take a moment to make a journal entry and let this book's previous readers know that it's safe with you.
How and where did you find the book? What did you think of it? What are you going to do with it next?
It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books: a little like geocaching or a treasure hunt - you can follow a registered book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)

The world does back flips,
and heaven help you
if you're too old for them.

So I finally got around to this one! :)
Something about the cover and the title didn't impress me over much but I still wanted to read it.
I think that overall the book is ok. Not anything spectacular. I've read a lot of books about this type of subject, the attack on Pearl Harbour the fear off all Japanese and the Japanese camps.
I don't think the story is bad. Might be good for pre-teen boys or young teen boys. I just didn't find the main character very flushed out but kind of 2D. Same with his family and friends. The story jumps around and since I know history, I can still follow but I think it would confuse someone with less or no knowledge.
The story glosses over the camps and the seriousness of his treatment as a foot soldier when they turned their guns on the American Japanese soldiers in Hawaii.
And the worst of being used as dog bait... I felt distant from what was going on with him. I don't know if it was the writing style or what but I just found it impossible to connect to him.
