This book is Margaret Atwood's retelling of Shakespeare's play The Tempest.
Felix gets displaced from his work as Artistic Director of the Makeshiweg Theatre Festival just as he was going to stage his version of The Tempest. He lives in exile, haunted by memories of her lost daughter and thinking about revenge. After twelve years he gets his chance when he runs a theatre course in a prison and he, together with the inmate actors, get to perform The Tempest to Felix' enemies. It's going to be a performance like no other.
I like Shakespeare's The Tempest, so it was easy to like this book, too. Sometimes the inmates in prison seemed like big children or exaggerated characters in a play, but perhaps that was intentional, since the book is like a multilayered play. However, it's still compelling and easy to read, although I guess it's better if you know anything about The Tempest.
A paperback from an antiquariat.
