The second book was just as good as the first. And that's not something I generally say often.
In this book, you get to see more political espionage, war planning, and character building. You get to see Damen and Laurent change and grow in a most pleasant way, and once more Pacat makes you turn pages, wanting to scream just kiss at the two main characters, but she never quite lets it get there.
The growth of the partnership between Damen and Laurent is easily my favorite thing about this novel- reading about the two of them bent over a map, talking strategy into the late hours of the morning... Their midnight escapades to further one of Laurent's ridiculously thought out plots- all in all it's a quick and good read.
