I finally got around to reading this book, the first in the Lynley/Havers series. Because I started with much later books in the series, beginning with Deception on His Mind, it was a little strange to see such familiar characters behaving the way they do in this book.
To be honest, I could hardly stand Barbara Havers as she appears here, despite liking her very much later on. I suppose that highlights all the more Thomas Lynley's depth of compassion in accepting her as he does. Of course, he's got problems of his own.
All in all, this was a very good book and I look forward to reading Payment in Blood, the next in line.
