I got this cute hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop, attracted by the menacing cat-shadow on the cover. Turns out the book's a somewhat-harsh look at the life of a white mouse, bred to be sold either to a pet shop or to a medical research facility. The book touches on the many dangers life offers to mice - and especially to domesticated mice; it's made clear to the reader and to young Christopher that he cannot survive in the wild on his own, so his only hope of a happy future is to find a kind owner... Not your typical anthropomorphic-animal story, but perhaps its various harsh truths are worth presenting. And Christopher does find a happy ending, with a pleasant surprise to cap it off.

I left this book in the Little Free Library; hope the finder enjoys it!
