The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu

I got this as a Christmas gift from my Dad several years ago and I've finally got around to reading it! I enjoyed the history of Timbuktu a lot, and learned lots about the city and it's history. I thought the more recent history was also interesting, but found the last chapter really bizarre. I look forward to hearing what others think!

I bought this as a birthday gift for someone during COVID lockdown, and hilariously it took so long to arrive in Edinburgh and then be picked up that I could have just sent my copy of the book. Oh well!

This book ( and more importantly the huge bars of Whittakers chocolate) have made it safely to Edinburgh. Thank you!

Just realised I seem to have missed journalling this one even though I finished it quite a while ago. Well, I really liked reading about the whole culture of books, reading and learning that has existed in Mali for a very long time. So interesting to imagine people in remote areas of the country being very clear on the importance of the scrolls and books in their possession. I think that first part of the book was my favourite, with Haidara's journeys to collect them for the library.
This is on a wishlsit, so it will be travelling on as a Christmas rabck in the near future.

And off it goes as some festive rabckery. Happy reading!

Thank you so much for this double wish granting package. I LOVE the gorgeous handmade card too. Thank you so much!
