This is one of two books passed to me unregistered and unread by my friend and neighbour Blower who'd been given them by a non-BookCrossing friend. My piles of books to be read are as healthy as ever (i.e. overflowing), so I don't know when I'll get around to either of them, but when I do, and if I'm suitably impressed, I'll pass them back across the fence for her to enjoy as well ....

From Google Overview: "In 1986, the belongings of Japanese families who were sent to internment camps in the US were discovered in the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. Henry, a Chinese American, remembers a young Japanese American girl with whom he forged a bond of friendship as a youth, and so he embarks on a journey of self-discovery."

I loved this story of love and friendship across divides of race and prejudice, of keeping faith against the odds . . . not to mention the Jazz . . .
And I now know more about the internment of Japanese Americans during the Second World War than I understood before.
I was impressed.
Reserved to return to Blower with my strong recommendation that she'll enjoy it!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Returned to Blower with my recommendation that she read and enjoy it!

Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than eleven million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

Passed to me by my friend and neighbour Nu-Knees. She kindly proof read this book and returned it to me with a strong recommendation to read it.
Thank you - I loved it and couldn't put it down.

Though a fiction book, it also told the true story of how Japanese families were treated during WW2 especially after Pearl Harbour.
Interesting to read a little about the USA during the war years.
