Journal Entry 1 by erishkigal from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Friday, December 16, 2016
This sweet book recently resurfaced, and I thought I'd add it to the upcoming WILD THING Bookbox. Then I reread, and decided to make it the journal book for the box, giving all participants the opportunity to read it, if they desire.

Some of you know I just lost my little wild man,Enkidu, my feline companion of 14 years. And just a year ago, I held Mr. Clooney and said goodbye~~he's the reason I'm sending this book out as the journal......Mr. C was a Best Friends foster, who was with me for four years. He was middle-aged, and during the first year he was with me several adoptions fell through. Then I took him in for his annual, and he was diagnosed with diabetes, at which point I knew he'd be remaining with me. As did BF, though he technically remained 'up for adoption.' TR, Tight Regulation, is a LOT of work. it was hard, but I learned a lot, not just about diabetes. And I can say unequivocally, that caring for special-needs furbabies brings with it phenomenal rewards. And that is why this book is going to make the rounds amongst the WILD THINGS :)

Ok, gonna take me awhile......currently, this is the start of the list....books will be added, and some may be taken off, depending on what I end up with....this is from going through my reserved list, and it reminded me that bear and pig have aso yet to be located....there must be a whole 'nother bag/box I've stashed out of sight.... and remember, if you check out this list before I send out the box, I'm still journalling and registering;)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

journey on, Julious, keep all the WILD THINGS safe till you return~

Journal Entry 4 by BOOKWORMINUSALL at Mesa, Arizona USA on Friday, June 23, 2017
Julius arrived safely today (Thursday, 6/22/2017), with his entourage of WILD THINGs, just in time to join me for a mid-morning Matcha Tea break...ICED, of course...as the forecasted high today is "only" 115!!! ; ) While it's a "dry heat", I can painfully "feel" each increment of the rising dew point and humidity levels indicative of the approaching summer monsoon rain, and the locust have started their "singing". ; ) Julius and I bonded immediately, as neurological problems (different than his), are also on my list of health challenges. With that in mind, and a "down day" for me, this Bookbox arrived at a good time for me to be able to help Julius figure out which "stowaways" were suppose to have started out on his Journal List, while I stay in...out of the heat today...it was too much for me the past few days. First, he delighted in "Story time" as we read through his Journal Book. He told me about his "Ancient Heritage" and showed me photos of his Cat Club friends. Afterwards, we got down to the WILD THINGs Bookbox Business at hand!!! ; ) After removing the books meant for Wild Release here in Arizona (I verified them all by checking the JE entries, and I will make JE entries for each one after doing those for the Bookbox), it seemed as though Julius brought along some Feline Friends who were not listed on the beginning Journal List, but were meant to be according to their Journal entries. There is also a Dog who is on the list, whose JE says he is suppose to be Wild Released in Arizona. Julius had two more hitchhikers who escaped from his Journal List, who were yolked together & designated by JE entry to count as one selection from the WILD THINGs Bookbox. This post is long, as I'm listing updates with links to the books, that I hope will save you some time and be of help to you, erishkigal. ; ) If I were able to edit your list for you, I would've gladly done so. This summary is the best I can do. ; )

UPDATES...that need your attention, erishkigal:

THIS DOG (may want to remove from beginning aka start list):

Putting on the Dog (Reigning Cats & Dogs Mysteries, No. 2) by Cynthia Baxter http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14280582

***Book had a BC Traveling sticker taped to the front with your lime green sticky note and the JE release note reads...“for AZ Wild release in a not-so-wild-part of Arizona"...so, when I go to mail the Bookbox (I have already PM'd azuki for address verification), I'm planning on Wild Releasing it on a bench outside the Bark Avenue Pet Resort and Animal Hospital...a top destination for dogs, cats, and small animals. ; )

THIS BOOK WAS NOT IN THE BOOKBOX (may want to remove from beginning aka start list):

Creature Cozies (Berkley Prime Crime Mysteries) by Assorted
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12606581

*** Last JE reads “Reserving for Wild Thing bb”...no release note was made.

THESE THREE FELINES (may want to add to the beginning list)

Cat Cross Their Graves: A Joe Grey Mystery (Joe Grey Mystery Series) by Shirley Rousseau Murphy http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14573521

*** JE release notes read, “The last book going into WILD THINGS ”.

Hiss of Death: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery by Rita Mae Brown http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12574477

***JE release note reads “made the final cut”.

Purr-Fect Crime by edited by Martin Harry Greenberg (Editor), Carol-Lynn Rossel Waugh (Editor), Isaac Asimov (Editor) http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14569530

***JE release note reads “I've decided to put it back in”.

THESE TWO TOGETHER AS ONE SELECTION (may want to add to the beginning list)

Day No Pigs Would Die, A by Robert Newton Peck
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/14345856

A Part of the Sky by Robert Newton Peck
http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12900869

***JE release not reads “they will count as one selection from the WILD THINGS bookbox...”.

P.S. And I didn't want to make a Journal Entry on this one that is NOT part of the Bookbox, but one of the six that arrived for Wild Release here in Arizona, until you have a chance to make a Release Note for it. ; ) Just wanted you to know it did arrive safely. ; )

Journal Entry 6 by Azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Tuesday, July 4, 2017
Hi Julius arrived in time for some fireworks!! Hope he's not too scared of them.

I've picked my books, sort of, and I have my stack to put in. However, one is a tortoise, which is, um, still taking its time to get ready for the trip. What can you say, you can't rush a tortoise.

Journal Entry 7 by Azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Tuesday, July 18, 2017
This is a fun little book about the cats at Best Friends Sanctuary. No offense to Julius, but my favorite part is about all the other candidates.

At this stop, some animals get off the bus and some get on. Still a lot of animals cannot make it in, especially the dogs - just too many of them. I hope another round of animal bus will come around soon!

Getting off:
The Daily Coyote
My Cat Spit Magee
Ella in Europe
The Wild Trees
Grayson
Sky Water
When the Swallows Come Again

Boarding the bus: a tortoise, a lion, a rooster, some chimps, a pair of horses, and many dogs -
Timothy; or, Notes of an Abject Reptile
Dogtown (about dogs at Best Friends. I hope the cats and dogs have a happy reunion)
A Lion Among Men
Buddy
Doga
White Horses Over France
Great Apes

Journal Entry 8 by rhythmbiscuit at Northglenn, Colorado USA on Tuesday, August 1, 2017
OK, I selected these:

Gizelle's Bucket List
Dogtown
Man O' War
Timothy, or Notes of an Abject Reptile

I put in these:

Lost & Found
The Lobster Chronicles
The Dogs of Babel
Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

This box is on its way to heartthumper. Thanks!

Journal Entry 9 by wingheartthumperwing at Hutchinson, Kansas USA on Thursday, August 10, 2017
This box has been at the neighbor's since Saturday. She brought it over today. Will make my choices and send it on to the next person. Sorry about the delay.

Journal Entry 10 by erishkigal at Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Saturday, August 12, 2017
Interrupting for an IMPORTANT REMINDER..... this is a SHRINKING Bookbox...Please remove 1 or 2 books more than you add!!!!

Journal Entry 11 by wingheartthumperwing at Hutchinson, Kansas USA on Saturday, August 12, 2017
LOL! Don't worry, I think took out seven and only added five.

Journal Entry 12 by mrsjones at Hamilton, Ohio USA on Sunday, October 15, 2017
Sorry it took me so long to journal. I removed:
Dog Eat Dog
Still Life with Elephant
Beauty in the Beasts
The Camel Bookmobile

And added:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog
Facing the Lion

Box is on its way to 6of8. Thanks for including me!

Journal Entry 13 by wing6of8wing at Silver Spring, Maryland USA on Sunday, October 29, 2017
I have the book box and I am packing it for its journey. Before it goes in the mail tomorrow, I will definitely read this book.

Taking out
Cat Tales for Christmas
Seabiscuit
Facing the Lion
Stalking Ivory
Little Dog Lost
The Cat on My Lap

Putting in
Time Stops for No Mouse
Alex and Me
The Cat that Changed My Life
Enslaved by Ducks

ETA my review of the book
Only when I opened this book did it register that it is about Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and a special needs cat. I was pleased to visit the sanctuary in Southern Utah about 20 years ago and we toured Benton's House, where the special needs cats live. I don't guarantee that the orange cat with the funny walk who is my greatest memory of the visit was Julius, but the odds are good. I remember being stunned to realize that people were not willing to adopt animals with special needs, because I grew up with parents who worked with people with special needs and many of their colleagues had special needs pets, as did we. That visit is probably the reason why, when I was finally in a position to adopt a cat, I went looking for one with special needs (Minerva had FIV). So Julius' philosophy had a direct impact on my life. I enjoyed reading his story.

Journal Entry 16 by Readertoo at Sugar Land, Texas USA on Sunday, January 28, 2018
Julius arrived safely with the book box in early December and with Christmas travels, the holiday rush and being the last one on the list I put it aside for awhile. Of course life even after the holidays has been crazy busy so I am just getting around to getting the book list updated so I can mail it back to erishkigal. My apologies for the delay. I will be sending this off on Monday, January 29th. It looks like it's been awhile since the book list was updated so it's now current.

Julius has returned to Salt Lake! And lost a lot of weight with all his travelling 😉 which is a good thing~~ I am soooo far behind...

And in case anyone notices the number of books Readertoo pulled, it was with my express encouragement. When I saw her original contained many non-animal books, I pm’d letting her know she was welcome to pull any or all of those, to read or release, to save herself some postage.

Thank you all for participating~~ hope you are enjoying your critters😊

FYI, I have a show opening Thurs, so it’s highly unlikely I’ll get any books journaled before then.

Journal Entry 18 by erishkigal at Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Saturday, September 5, 2020
It’s long long lonnnng past time to get another edition of this box on the move. Besides just being a procrastinator, I kept putting off sending this on another round as just about everything seemed to be dogs, cats, or horses, not wild things....
And it still is.... that’s just what seems to keep coming my way.... But I am busy sorting through a ton of stuff (currently in my garage as a valve broke and the basement flooded), and am in the hopes of eliminating at least half of it. Which brings me back to this book box; I probably have enough animal books for three boxes!! Fiction and non-, but still primarily domesticated rather than wild.

This will once again be a shrinking a box, as I do desperately need less that I started out with😉

Please let me know if you are interested. I will post in the forum later today, but right now I’ve got to run off before my coffee roaster closes~

Received the Wild Things book box. Looks like I will take out 6 books. Just read the sad tale of the previous Wild Things book box, and realize that I did not put tape over the entire label. But it's a book crossing sticky label, so probably not necessary. Also, as ALWAYS, I put the TO address inside the box, so it would get shipped onward even without its label. Here's hoping that nothing goes astray.

Journal Entry 31 by BOOKWORMINUSALL at Mesa, Arizona USA on Friday, June 4, 2021
The unfortunately really not WILD 🦁🐯🐻🦍🦒🦊🐵🐗🦏🐆🦨 at all WILD THINGS Bookbox arrived 2 days ahead of schedule today, Thursday, 3 June 2021...put a star on the calendar for the USPS⭐...with 20 books in tow. I believe there were 30 books when it first started it's Journey, although that includes this book chosen first in this round [Cat Trick https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/13993093 ], that I didn't see👀 on the beginning list...that's not saying much, as my vision challenges include Map Dot Fingerprinting, and Epiretinal Membrane Dystrophy...a challenge and a half on a GOOD day...extremely so when working on the computer, or trying to read...and I am not even diabetic...Thank You, God!!!🙏With some unexpected computer access tonight, I made time, and the “executive decision”, to go ahead and dive in after opening the box outside, taking the books out, and leaving everything outside to bake all day in the shaded 107 degree temperatures we are currently experiencing for the end of Spring here in the parched Sonoran Desert of Arizona, just ahead of what I imagine will be a very TOASTy Summer. Half of our state is currently in “Exceptional Drought”...for those who don't know, that is the highest stage of drought...one step above “Extreme Drought”. Perhaps any unwanted undesirable pathogens will have succumbed to the heat during this shorter than planned quarantine. I am very vulnerable health-wise for multiple reasons, and unable to get a COVID Vaccination due to a known reaction to one of it's carrier ingredients. I immediately noticed that somewhere along the WILD THINGS' Journey, erishkigals' request in Julius' Journal here to “(please journal your changes)” seems to have fallen by the way side in places, so I'm recreating a current list of books so that we can really see what's available now, and I can Journal the Changes I decide to make over the weekend, before sending the WILD THINGS off next week to a new first time participant (WELCOME 🙋‍♀️ fellow Bcer debnance) who requested to be added on to the end of this round's participant list (at erishkigal's invitation after she pointed out that "Another round will likely be a while") in the main Thread https://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/20/570423 , which will make it easier for her TO participate...and also as a courtesy to our WILD THINGS Bookbox Hostess, so she will have an "inventory" list (with links!...which makes it so much easier for the next in line to make a quick Journal Entry...you may KNOW that they are SOOOOO much fun to receive) to start off with for the next round. 😉THANK YOU, again...erishkigal ❤, for all of your extra efforts toward continuing to Host, and for including me in this round!!!😊 After asking to be at the end for “weight-lifting” purposes🤣, I had also originally thought I could send your Birthday Group Surprise to you when I sent your WILD THINGS home to you (I also thought they'd arrive sooner😉), but since they will now be taking yet another scenic route, I will send that now 6 month belated no longer a ✨SURPRISE✨ parcel along in a separate box, and I'll be transferring the WILD THINGS into a new smaller sturdier box, as well...so they might travel a bit better and not shift around so much in the larger one still being used to this point.

CURRENT LIST OF WILD THING BOOKS as of Thursday, 3 June 2021

Always a pleasure to have the opportunity to "visit" with 🐱Julius and reread this Journal Book 📔 about him and his friends Benton, Blackjack, Camille, Bijou, Simon, Malcom, Funnyface Patience, Tomato the Cat, Thomas, and Virginia and others at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah whenever they happen to pass through Arizona. Julius reminds me of Beaner and his mate Bambi, a pair of orange Tortoise Shell Tabby Cats aka Torbies that had my heart and soul sooooo many moon's ago, who loved to sit across from each other in the chairs at my little kitchen table and take turns reaching up to move the Monopoly game pieces that were usually left out on top of the game board on the table in those day. Wish I knew where the photo I took on an old Instamatic Camera I had back then was, so that I could scan it in my Journal Entry here to share it with all of you. Really did looked as though they were playing Monopoly together. Even though for their safety, they were strictly indoor felines, at some point they both got a horrid case of distemper. I cared for them for weeks nursing them back to health, and was overJOYed when they both survived.😹 Thanks for the memory, Julius...and the reminder that "Life is a journey, a great and wonderful journey to the other side of the room."🐈 (see page 24) Due to numerous physical limitations, I have slowly reduced my participation in Bookboxes other than those of the Virtual kind.😉 Even this "little box" of now only 19 books feels extremely heavy for me, and while I am exTEREMEly teNAcious...one MUST keep moving😊...this may well be the last round of WILD THINGS that I participate in, as well. In full fibromyalgia flare, as I currently now am again...yes people, it is a "real thing" and not just "in your head". Some of us have been struggling for years with it, and NUMerous "practicing" medical professionals who to this day STILL don't recognize it because there's no "definitive" test for it. Apparently it even has a new name now after all of these years. https://www.cdc.gov/me-cfs/index.html Among other weather changes, the heat seems to make things worse, and our end of Spring here in the Sonoran Desert has brought temperatures of 108 the past few days, but it is supposed to cool down to 101 on Tuesday, and the WILD THINGS will be continuing their Journey, as they need to get home to "Mom" before her travels begin for the Summer. THANK YOU for including me, erishkigal!!!💖❌⭕

I have chosen two books:

A View from the Backstretch by Dona Ann McAdams

Journal Entry 37 by erishkigal at Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Saturday, August 7, 2021
Hello all, so sorry Julius is taking so long to check back in. The wild things box arrived back in Salt Lake after I had gone to Little Big Medicine Sundance, and a little bit of extended camping/exploring before back home in time for surgery.
I did get to the post office to pick up my mail before going in hospital, but I didn’t get the box opened until after my two weeks with my daughter. I didn’t think I did that long, and many ways I didn’t, but I quickly realized I couldn’t even see to take care of the drain… And I must admit being pampered was kind of nice😉

At any rate, I am home, and doing well. I will get the books journaled as quickly as I can (I have two boxes to do nowaaagh!)
I’m so happy the box came back considerably smaller!! And even happier, but I’ve already read half the books in it, so they can be released quickly-yay! And the others are all books I want to read ~ what a win-win🙂

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
