I got this slightly-battered softcover at the Lucky Dog thrift shop in Nashua, for a holiday-themed release.

The story deals with more than the holiday: young Charlie, whose father runs a shop selling African clothing and jewelry, used to love the Kwanzaa celebration, but when his teacher's attempt to teach her class about it last year resulted in him becoming the target of a class bully, he's rather gone off the idea - at least in school. But this year the teacher wants to make it a school-wide celebration, and expects Charlie to wear traditional garb again...

The story deals with bullies, and with a friend suddenly realizing that another friend is so poor that he can't afford winter clothing. And while some aspects of the story seemed forced, the emphasis on trying to live the ideals of Kwanzaa in daily life came across very well.
