Dragons (Monsters (Kidhaven Press))

A book that I recently acquired.
Like all books for younger readers that I register, this is done in memory of Becky, the daughter of a dear friend and fellow bookcrosser, ResQgeek, who was tragically killed in August 2010.
Becky's love lives in you! Live her love by sharing Becky's hugs! Visit the Becky's Hugs page at Facebook. http://www.BeckysHugs.com
Review: This book was written by a friend of mine several years before I met her. I found it an interesting overview of the concept of dragons, both as fictional creatures and as myths that pervade cultures around the world. (I never knew that the Cherokee Indians had a dragon in their mythology, or that there are mythological dragons among Arctic peoples. I had even forgotten to think of Grendel from Beowulf as a dragon.) This book covers the ideas of dragons as bad guys and good guys, as creator-gods and destroyers of worlds, as well as the concepts of science about the source of dragon-lore. And it has a nice analysis of the various popular stories involving dragons, from Harry Potter (which is not a surprise, because Cathy is a huge Potter fan), to my childhood friend Pete's Dragon.

Picked up at local DC Bookcrossing group meet up at Pizza CS .
Released to SqNutZips
This book was a controlled release to me by "Ryetoast" who picked it up at a BCinDC meet-up in Rockville, Md. back on January 29, 2017. I didn't receive it until Feb. 2017 but forgot to journal it at the time.
This book is currently part of a bookring/ray in the local BCinDC group. The book is written by fellow BC'er and author Catherine Petrini.
This is a very well written and researched book. The book is billed for children, however I think anyone of any age will find this book interesting and informative.

Picked up at the July meetup in Crystal City. I will give a read and return next month. :)
From our very own AuthorAuthor. Returning to the group to keep the bookray moving. Love the historic renderings and paintings used to illustrate the history of dragon lore.
Another book from today's BC-in-DC meeting, to be read and then passed along at another meeting.
While this book may have been written with a younger audience in mind, I found it quite intriguing. Well researched, it is packed with details about dragons and the wide range of stories that have been created about them. As a long time reader of fantasy fiction, I thought I was well-versed in dragon lore, but I learned some new bits here. Well done.
This book will be available at today's BC-in-DC meeting.
Caught! Thanks for this book!
I'm not much into dragons, but I did enjoy reading this children's book about how dragons evolved in our imagination over the years and in various cultures.
In this book, I actually preferred the friendly dragons, although my favorite one, but a sad one, was Puff the Magic Dragon of Peter, Paul, and Mary folk song fame.
A most interesting fact in this book was when I learned that Chinese dragons are afraid of centipedes! I have that over dragons. I find centipedes quite interesting. :)

I'm releasing this book back to BCinDC at the February 2018 meetup of BCinDC at La Madeleine.
I'm excited to read this book written by a fellow BCer! ♥♥♥
Tons of interesting information about dragons from dragons in cultural history from around the world to the modern dragon in movies and books. Much I did not know about dragons.

Picked up at today's BCinDC gathering. I like reading kid's books and I haven't read many about dragons :)

I'm bringing this back to today's BC in DC meetup since it's marked as a local bookray.
