Sweet Rein Vol. 3
2 journalers for this copy...
I got this cute manga at Barnes and Noble. I'd read Volume 1 a couple of years back, and thought this one would make a nice seasonal release.
This volume continues the cute romantic-comedy adventures of "Santa" Kurumi and her reindeer-turned-boy Kaito. The story follows them year-round, meaning that there's actually a beach episode here {grin} - not typical for Christmas, but it adds some fun, especially when Kurumi learns about reindeer going into heat (!). She's oddly reluctant to commit to a relationship with Kaito even though she clearly loves him; perhaps it's the tales of the "dark reindeer" - those who disappointed or angered their Santas and are separated from them forever - that makes her hesitate.
We do get to see the touching resolution to one such dark-reindeer tale, and very sweet it is. But in general the stories are light-hearted and often silly - with some touching surprises here and there, as in the tale of the lonely little boy and his devoted butler.
There's a Halloween tale, too, as the seasons rush on towards Christmas again, and it's quite amusing. When we finally do get back to Christmas, it doesn't get much page-time, but our young heroine and hero do get a lovely gift to share...
A bonus story at the end, "The Break of Dawn", was rather cute, though I wasn't familiar with the Penguin Revolution series of which it's a spin-off.

I found the book a few weeks ago, just shortly after the originator cast it out. I had never read Manga before, but I was too excited to find my first BookCrossing book to question it. I couldn't wait to read it and finally form an opinion of my own of Manga.
I loved it. I found it silly, and a tad immature, but I had a blast reading it! I even bought a copy for myself, and was gifted books 1 & 2 of Sweet Rein for the holidays. I can't thank GoryDetails enough for choosing this book and this dropping place when and where they did. You have opened my eyes to a new genre of books, and I am very grateful.
The book has been sent into the wild again. I hope whoever finds it enjoys it as much as me!
