This is a wonderful book, beginning a wonderful series. It crackles with life and detail, and it sheds an interesting light on people and events, many of which have been told before many times, some of which have never been told, but all of which are given great plausability and effect by Lawhead's telling of their stories.
It is a story of the search for truth, a story of faith lost and won, and a story of the people and events that would shape Britain for generations. The hero, the underdog, the lover, and the singer all are revealed in a new light.
