This has to be one of the very best thrillers I have ever read! DD Warren is a good detective, and she is faced with a dead kidnapper/rapist and a living naked victim named Flora. After finding out Flora was not only kidnapped and killed this man, Devon, she finds out Flora returned 5 years earlier from being a victim of a serial kidnapper/rapist/killer who kept her for 472 days. Flora is a survivor! She is also a somewhat vigilante, which is what led her into the situation with Devon.
But, after finding Devon had other victims, and trying to find other missing girls who he was involved with taking, then Flora goes missing again. Flora, the strong willed, schooled in self-defense since her return to real life, safety (lock all your doors with several locks) conscience woman is taken! Now, where to turn? Who to look to? Will Flora get herself home again, or will they find her too late this time? Such a great suspenseful book full of great characters!

Gardner has made a great mystery series with Boston detective D. D. Warren. It's one of the best series I've read. The main character is Flora Dane. Is she a victim? a survivor? a vigilante? She's all three. As a college student she was kidnapped. After living through this ordeal, she spent years trying to get back to a normal life. When Warren is called to the scene of a crime, a dead man and a bound, naked woman, Flora who killed him. Flora disappears and now it's up to D.D. Warren to find her. A very good read.

A story of monsters among us. The victims of these monsters. Flora, a victim, a survivor, a vigilante, was kidnapped by a rapist, killer, monster and held captive for 472 days. In the end she shoots the monster. She has been looking for another missing girl and comes across Devon who holds her hostage, but using her survival skills she gets the better of him and kills him. If that isn't enough, shortly thereafter, she is missing again. She finds the missing girl, but they are both held captive. She needs to find her way out of this prison and get help for the girl. A good read!

Thanks so much for sending this to me. I've been reading more suspense novels lately, so this one will be read soon.

Journal Entry 8 by mrsjones at Hamilton, Ohio USA on Tuesday, July 3, 2018
I've never read a Lisa Gardner thriller before and rarely read suspense novels. But I was just in the mood for this. I liked it, though there were times that it seemed to repetitive and then I started thinking about what it must be like to write a book like this and keep entering such a dark, depraved mind space.

There were some interesting tidbits in the book as well as insightful psychology into the kidnapper/victim dynamics. Thanks for sending this my way!
