Bon Voyage, book.
It's a pity not to have an official bookcrossing site. In any case, I took it home to read it, and it has been with me quite a while. I guess that at heart this novel is a romantic story, which is not my favourite type of books. That it's well written saves it, in my opinion.
The plot begins with a biking accident between Fred and Daisy. He comes from Cambridge intelligentsia, and she is a penniless nursing student. Both are knocked out because of the accident. A bystander takes for granted that they were married, as she is wearing a wedding ring (but he is not, which is an absolute plothole that annoyed me). It happens that she is not married to anybody else either, as the ring is only a front to ward off unwanted attention from stalky men. In any case, there we go, romantic plot unfolds as they wake up in the same bed, close to each other.
There is a villain in all this weird romance that they have going on between them. He is called Thomas Kelly, and is a reporter/journalist that was traveliing with Daisy but run away when the accident took place.
The title of the book arises from the imaginary college in which Fred works, St Angelicus. There is a kind of magical realism going on with the gates to this place, not only because of its name, but because these doors have only been open three times in all the history of the place, and one of these times will be essential to reconcile Daisy and Fred.
