I got this fair-condition ex-library hardcover from Better World Books. It's a beautifully-illustrated book about the lifecycle of horseshoe crabs - and of the many species that take advantage of the crabs' eggs during their short-term mating season. I've always been fascinated by the prehistoric look of these crabs - saw live ones on a beach long ago and was wildly impressed. Here, we see their entire lifecycle, from the mating process (which is a bit bizarre, with the females dragging the males from nest-site to nest-site!) to their return to the sea (or, for many, to their deaths), and on to the births of the new generation from the eggs that survive the mass feasting.
[I read a book called Crab Wars a while back, which added a new wrinkle to the factors that are impacting the crabs' survival: it seems that their blood has components that are highly valued in medical testing, so they're actually being farmed/"milked" now...]

I hope to leave this book somewhere near the cafe early this afternoon, while stopping by for one of their awesome lobster BLTs. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
