This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and every once in a while they even write home to say what they've been doing.
☻ ☻ ☻
This book is from the library of Purple58, a very special woman whom I was fortunate enough to meet through our BookCrossing group, the Table of Contents.
Fiercely independent, with a loving heart and a wicked sense of humor, she was passionate about the things she believed in and was willing to stand up and be counted when necessary. She was truly a one of a kind individual, and she will be missed by all of her many friends...who prefer to believe that she's off in Vegas, having a fabulous time and eating as many desserts as she wants.

Released 7 yrs ago (10/30/2016 UTC) at Kewalo Basin Net Shed in Honolulu, Hawaii USA
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
To be released Saturday, October 29, at the Happy Holly-Day party.
This book is released in memory of BookCrosser purple58, who wanted all of her books to find good homes after she was gone. Please feel free to read it, keep it, pass it on...whatever you wish. If you have something to say about the book, or a memory to share about Holly, please feel free to post it here: she was never shy about sharing her opinions, so she wouldn't expect any less.

I'm so glad you've found this book!
Please take a moment to make a journal entry and let the book's previous readers know that it's safe with you.
How and where did you find the book? What did you think of it? What are you going to do with it next?
It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books: a little like geocaching or a treasure hunt - you can follow a registered book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)

This book came home from purple58's wonderful send-off with me. I think Holly would have loved her final party and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. (The word cloud in the journal entry was generated from descriptions of Holly by her friends.)
This book will be heading out soon in honor of a special woman who was undoubtedly chuckling as she planned how she would have us celebrate her life. :)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, hyphen8, for this book that came as part of a lovely little boxful of books once owned by Purple58, who I never personally met. I will be deciding which few I'd like to keep to read, and will eventually Wild Release, and share them all with others, in order to help make Purple58's wish that all her books find good homes come true. ; )
NOTE: The "Teens" category that is currently set for this hardback book is not accurate. It is actually a Memoir.
From Amazon...
Now in paperback, Larry McMurtry’s fascinating and surprisingly intimate memoir of his lifelong passion of buying, selling, and collecting rare antiquarian books: “a necessary and marvelous gift” (San Antonio Express-News).
• Acclaimed author: Spanning a lifetime of literary achievement, Larry McMurtry has succeeded at a wide variety of genres, from coming-of-age novels like The Last Picture Show, to essays like In a Narrow Grave, to the reinvention of the “Western” on a grand scale like the Pulitzer Prize–winning Lonesome Dove. Here at last is the private McMurtry writing about himself: as a boy growing up in a largely “bookless” world, as a young man devouring the world of literature, as a fledgling writer and family man, and above all as one of America’s most prominent “bookmen.”
• A work of charm, grace, and good humor: reading Books is like reading the best kind of diary—full of wonderful anecdotes, amazing characters, spicy gossip, and shrewd observations. Like its author, Books is erudite, full of life, and full of great stories. Yet the most curious tale of all is the amazing transformation of a reluctant young cowboy into a world-class literary figure who has spent his life not only writing books, but rounding them up the way he once rounded up cattle. At once chatty, revealing, and deeply satisfying, Books is Larry McMurtry at his best.

March 2017 UPDATE...
I'll be Wild Releasing this for International BookCrossing Day 21 April 2017, or perhaps starting a Celebratory Bookring!!! ; )

Hello hyphen8 and BOOKWORMINUSALL!
Just a quick note to let you know that the book arrived here in Delphi, Greece today and I've start reading it straight away!
Thank you for offering it here in Book Crossing : )
Update on 12th May 2017:
I admit I am a weirdo. I have never hear of McMurtry before and I just joined this book ring because it seemed a memoir about someone loving books and making a living out of it. And to celebrate BC Day of course : )
As I'm not familiar with US, let alone book trading and so on in US, this book offered an insight and an interesting one on that regard. It was nice to see how things work or used to work in book dealing, book collecting, book buying and selling etc. But after a while the book got a bit repetitive and tiring, with all this name throwing and information on places I'm not familiar with and the narrative was quite fragmental, leading to no conclusion. Mostly a collection of essays than a memoir.
I think people who are familiar with McMurtry or American things might feel more connected with this book.
That said, it was smaller than expected. It is a book with many pages to read on first sight, but it s format is leaving many blank pages and spaces. I was reading some chapters per day with a mild interest, finding it's an ok read but not necessarily a book calling me back to it. Still, I finished it in less than 6-7 days, reading on a very slow pace.
Reccommended to people with specific interest on books trading in US or on the author as a book dealer and book collector. (Not much revealed about his personal life here).
Now, let's see where this book travels next...
