Great book. It shows, based on empirical data, how we really make decisions. It shows the rational-agent theory as what it really is: a comforting illusion. This book explains why it is so easy to manipulate opinions, why we jump to wrong conclusions easily and confidently, and demonstrates that we should trust ourselves much less than we do.

"A reliable way to make people believe in falsehoods is frequent repetition, because familiarity is not easily distinguished from truth."

Journal Entry 3 by webosfritos at Gijón, Asturies/Asturias Spain on Sunday, September 25, 2016
"We are far too willing to reject the belief that much of what we see in life is random."

Journal Entry 4 by webosfritos at Gijón, Asturies/Asturias Spain on Sunday, September 25, 2016
"Our comforting conviction that the world makes sense rests on a secure foundation: our almost unlimited ability to ignore our ignorance."

Journal Entry 5 by webosfritos at Gijón, Asturies/Asturias Spain on Sunday, October 9, 2016
"Most of us view the world as more benign that it really is, our own attributes as more favorable than they truly are, and the goals we adopt as more achievable than they are likely to be".

Journal Entry 6 by webosfritos at Gijón, Asturies/Asturias Spain on Sunday, October 9, 2016
"Psychologists have confirmed that most people genuinely believe that they are superior to most others on most desiderable traits". "90% of drivers believe they are better than average".

Journal Entry 7 by webosfritos at Gijón, Asturies/Asturias Spain on Monday, December 5, 2016
"A theory that is worthy of the name asserts that certain events are impossible --they will not happen if the theory is true. When an "impossible" event is observed, the theory is falsified. Theories can survive for a long time after conclusive evidence falsifies them, and the rational-agent model certainly survived the evidence."
