Picked up to send to someone I know who wants to read it... I have read this book before, though, and was thoroughly absorbed from start to finish. It's almost unthinkable that one woman's life could change in so many ways over time, but this book brings the whole saga to life, and it really opened my eyes to what historical fiction can be.
I have long wanted to read this book and now it's here, in my hands. A wonderful and totally unexpected suprise. Thank you so much, ermintrude75! :)))))
Update (Apr 23rd): with all the obligatory Swedish reading for my language course that I had to do in the last week, it took me a bit longer to finish this than I thought. I liked the book very much, this is an excellent historical novel. One thing which I particularly liked is how well the author researched the life of Katherine Swynford and John of Gaunt and used only real facts in her story. An example of this is that none of the persons in the book are invented: even the small unimportant figures like Duke of Lancaster's servants are real people, named in historical registers.
I am considering what to do with the book. I will probably send it to another BCer who likes historical fiction.
