1860s. A young woman, Fusang, is kidnapped from her village in China and sold into San Francisco´s seedy underworld of prostitution. Soon she falls into an obsessive relationship with a Californian boy, Chris. But there are many obstacles in their way, from Chris´s wealthy family to Fusang´s murderous pimp, who bestrides Chinatown with a clutch of daggers at his waist.

This is a weird love story, I don't really know what to think about it.

The story was interesting, as were the description of the San Francisco and the prevalent racism of those times. But the voice of the contemporary narrator was confusing, and everything dragged on, I had a hard time finishing it. Still overall a nice discovery...
