Hollow City: The Second Novel of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children

September 3, 1940. Ten peculiar children flee an army of deadly monsters. And only one person can help them—but she’s trapped in the body of a bird. The extraordinary journey that began in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children continues as Jacob Portman and his newfound friends journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. There, they hope to find a cure for their beloved headmistress, Miss Peregrine. But in this war-torn city, hideous surprises lurk around every corner. And before Jacob can deliver the peculiar children to safety, he must make an important decision about his love for Emma Bloom. Like its predecessor, this second novel in the Peculiar Children series blends thrilling fantasy with vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience.
Well, I am nearly through this book and I like it, though there were segments where I nearly
stopped reading. It became all so dark and sad (that's when the wights came into action) and later with the description of war torn London
But I am happy that I haven't stopped! I really liked the children (maybe except Enoch :-)) and how the use their abilities - and also the new peculiars they met. Mr Riggs has quite an extraordinary imagination ;-)
I am still fascinated by the way the author mixes these old photographs and story together. He must have an inexhaustible fund of photos!
So I guess the "Library of souls" will be read some time soon, too...

As much as I enjoyed the first book I just can't get into this one... :(
On its way to Switzerland. Sorry for the delay!

This actually came in about a week ago, and I thought because of a busy busy conference I wouldn't get to it for a bit. A bout of flu gave me time to tackle it, but no wifi at home meant I couldn't do anything about journaling its arrival etc. Once I've finished mopping up the work generated by the conference and the start of a new term, I'll try to journal this properly and get it off. Meanwhile I'm about to ask for the next address. Cheers and all the best for a brilliant 2017, on and off the page!

I'm not sure when I read the first in this series, but it seems to me it was a while ago (I know, I could look it up, but although I am quite sure I read it as a bookcrossing ring as well, I don't find it right off the bat. The bookcrossing site is acting up, so perhaps not being able to search properly is collateral damage.) All of this to say that I don't remember the first terribly well, but I do remember appreciating it. This was a bit like starting a new story as I didn't really remember the previous book, but I liked it a lot, and the photos are really brilliant. Too bad it all ends on a cliff hanger. Perhaps the third will come around as well.
Meanwhile thank you so much for this ring. This is now leaving the (finally) snowy Swiss Alps and heads off closer to the sea - in France. Enjoy!

Thank you penelopewanders. The book is now with me.
I'm very sorry. Like Lilyklip I enjoyed the first book but I can't get into this one. Perhaps the wrong time for me to read it.
On its way to earthcaroleanne in Scotland.
Sorry, forgot to journal this when it arrived on Friday. Unfortunately I'm off to Oslo tomorrow for the convention so it will have to wait until I get back.
I really enjoyed this first book but when this arrived I wasn't so sure. Apart from it being quite a dense book, I don't read a lot of fantasy and last time I enjoyed the first book of a trilogy, I just couldn't get into the second one. However this was completely different. It's a while since I read the first one but I was soon reminded of all the peculiar children. Unlike kiki66, I didn't find the wights as disturbing this time but it was very sad. (BTW I love the photo you included - it just suited the book.) This book is more of a journey and frustratingly, it is a journey without an end. I now need book three.
On it's way in the bookray.

The book has arrived! Can't wait to read it but it might be a couple books down the line. Thanks so much for sharing! (Psst... might want to bump up the forum thread to try to find anyone else in the US interested?)

I'm extremely sorry it has taken so long to get to this one! It must be the longest it has ever taken me for a ray/ring. Thanks so much for sharing, kiki66. And if anyone else in the US is interested, you're next!
I loved the first book, actually liked the differences that the Tim Burton movie went with, so I was looking forward to the second book. To me, this SEEMS like a second book though. The book starts immediately where the first book left off, and ends pretty quickly right in the middle of action, so at least the first three books in the series seem like one gigantic book published separately. This one feels very "middle book" though, where the action continues from the first book and there is a quest which will continue in the third book. Almost like there could be no break between all three books... not sure how the fourth book will fit into that yet. I like the new characters that are introduced here, and how the stakes are raised from those darn wights. If anything, this book added more fun peculiars to the growing peculiar family/army. These books are extremely dark if they are children's books though. Yowzas.
