Chandler's first Philip Marlowe story. Marlowe gets hired by General Sternwood, wealthy but dying oil tycoon. The problem is Sternwood's two wild daughters. Kidnapping, pornography, seduction, and murder are just a few of the complications he gets caught up in.
Chandler's style is unique, the intrigue very complicated, the conclusion cynical.

Just got back from a trip to Wales to find this waiting for me. Thank you so much for sending :-)
6 Aug 19 - This is very much a book of its time, maybe not as fast paced as some of the more modern crime fiction and at times the plot was a bit over complicated to the point that I had to re read sections to work out what was going on.
