I donated this book to my own church bookstall, not the same church as the other Mayflower book. It had been on my own shelf for ages, and I had decided that I would NEVER get round to it.

I run the bookstall and we have at least 40 boxes of books, so when we had our spring fair the other week, and the book appeared again, I thought I'd better read it this time!

I read most of it and found it very interesting, but the final section got me beat. Its well worth reading but you take what you want from it.

Its now time to pass the book on to ETMadrid.

Thank you SO much Deltic! Really appreciate it: I think I'll read this one first as it is the most relevant of the two you've sent to my activity organising Mayflower anniversary events here.

I finished reading this last week and completely loved it. I had originally put it out on the table for anyone to take when I was at a meeting helping to organise a Mayflower sailing anniversary, but noone took either of the two books I had on the topic. I'm so glad! I have at last made the time to read this and it was so rich in information and appears to be so well researched.

Our committee had decided to not dwell so much on the religious mission of the Separatists, as some on the boat were merely looking for new lives, a better fortune. But the drivers were these believers, and it was fascinating to understand to what extent they were being persecuted. They were turning away from much of the corruption and excess of some aspects of the Church at the time. And in rejecting it, they were often ending up in prison and in some cases being executed. It was a time when in fact anyone could end up in prison for merely not going to church...! I had already seen the film "Pilgrims" which is not bad. This book made me understand much further how their movement came about, where it began, in what circumstances they first went to Holland, and it gives much detail about who the passengers were. Thank you so much Deltic for this opportunity. Whilst I'm no longer a member of the committee, I hope to be working on my own programme of events for next year, the 400th anniversary. I would love to visit the places that are connected to these Separatists further north and in Holland. I don't suppose that David Beale is still running his tours. I live two doors down from the Mayflower Pub and hold concerts in St Mary's Church, Rotherhithe, which is where the ship's captain, Christopher Jones, and his family, worshipped.

I thought I would be reading this and then wild-releasing it, but I will be sharing in a controlled way as I intend to use it myself some more for reference. I left it in the Bloomsbury Tavern one night shortly before finishing it. I was relieved that when I went back two weeks later it was still there - phew!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This will have just caught the last post today to wing its way to a musician. Let's see whether it might inspire anything creative...!

I had meant to revisit the pages about the different places around Nottinghamshire way that are connected to the Mayflower. That didn't happen, so I was photographing the pages before putting it in its envelope! Don't know whether I'll be able to read them...
