I was out on a camping trip this past weekend and I asked my friend if he was a fly tier. He told me that he never got into that, but he was a fly fisherman. I told him that I had just read a fascinating book about fanatic fly tiers. In this book (which I had finished while on this camping trip), I told my friend that there are people who do not much care for the laws which protect endangered species of birds as long as they are able to acquire exotic and beautiful feathers and skins to use in their fly tying hobby. I explained that the book centered around these people and especially one who broke into the British Museum of Ornithology to steal almost 300 birds for their feathers to use and also to sell to the world's fly tiers.

My friend laughed and said that is truly a stretch for the plot of a book. I agreed, but told him that this was not a novel. It was not fiction; it is a non-fiction book about an actual theft. Not only that, this book is not about some 19th century titled thief, it is about a young highly talented musician who committed his theft and follow-up sales attempt in the 21st century.

The investigation of this crime by the author only gets more interesting as the book progresses.

I am not a fly tier, nor even a fly fisherman, but I was engrossed by this book anyway.
