I am the lucky decoy this round. Thank you for sending me two books. I felt like such a winner. I love Shakespeare and have always regretted donating my complete works of Shakespeare.

Not one of my favourites, but it is still a great play. I really love the beautiful language.

This is your prize for the Classics sweeps. Enjoy!
I started reading this book somehow reluctantly because my English is far from fluent and this is English on an older form, but it proved easier than I thought. A theatrical play always loses something of its force in written form, but this was a very decent read.
First of all, on Shakespeare's era performances didn't involve any rich stage setting, so the playwrights had to transpire the information of location and identity of people through the dialogue among the actors. Then I have a decent knowledge of the historical facts of the era where the story takes place,so I could decipher which events the action refers to, which roles were real people and which not etc. Been Greek it was easy to get references on mythological figures etc too and get the concept and what the author tried to do there.
On the other hand, at some parts the plot and dialogue take a somehow pompous quality and I'm not fond of much melodrama. Of course Antony and Cleopatra's story is melodramatic per ce and most things ancient Roman often end up feeling pompous somehow...
There were many inconsistencies and anachronisms in the play which were fun to note rather than irking and many similes, creative descriptions, neologisms that I enjoyed very much. Shakespeare is known to have invented and/or introduce tons of new elements to English language anyway...
Last but not least, while this is a very well-known story, the way the events are presented with many various scenes etc is clever and spirited. Reading the text, it gains a captivating pace after the first few pages and I'm sure that seen the theatrical performance would be even more engaging...

Sadly I am not fluent enough in English to fully appreciate Shakespeare in the original text. After reading a few pages I choose the easy way : download and read the French version. Love, war, tragedy, are the ingredients of this masterpiece based on historical events. I enjoyed the read but this is definitely a play I would prefer to see on stage.
The book will be released at the historical Athens Lawn Tennis club founded in 1865. Located a few steps from the Roman temple of Olympius Zeus, this is where the tennis finals of the fisrt modern Olympic games were played in 1896.
