Poetry As Prayer: Jessica Powers (The Poetry As Prayer Series)

Jessica Powers was a Roman Catholic nun and poet. She is often described as the "Emily Dickinson of the Midwest." This seems like high praise and I have been meaning to read her. I found this book a good while ago for sale at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers. I hope to finally read it soon.

Though I wanted to, I did not find Jessica Powers' poetry on par with Emily Dickinson's. She is obviously devoted to poetry and prayer but I found her poems were often a bit dry and cold. Bishop Robert F. Morneau, editor of this book, is closer to her life and work and loves her poems. I found some books in this now out-of-print "Poetry as Prayer" series from nearly 20 years ago interesting and insightful. Morneau perhaps offers too many suggestions for poetry's enhancement of prayer. I wish he'd been more focused.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
This book was unclaimed for three weeks at its former place in the wild so I have decided to give it another chance at a Little Free Library down the road.

This book has languished in two different Little Free Libraries for about two months. It is now donated to the local Methodist book sale. Perhaps you'll see it there.
