Released in bar
Picked up a couple of hours ago, at the Thursday evening monthly Book Swap/BookCrossing Meet-Up at Joseph Pearce’s bar, Elm Row, Edinburgh. I took THE ABUNDANCE from the table tonight as I figure my mum may be fascinated with this – my fingers are crossed but I’m feeling confident!
Also, of course, I cannot resist it myself as it promises to be a ‘perfect introduction to her [Annie Dillard’s] luminous prose, her insightful wisdom and her powerful engagement with nature and the human spirit’ to quote JOHN LISTER-KAYE I’m reeled in!

THU 20 SEP 2018 - EDITED TO ADD:
Now having to clear my BookCrossing book stash from my mum’s in Aberdeen I’ve set this traveling again… These are some details I had prepared in advance but in my haste missed the opportunity to add as a ‘Journal Entry’ before actually posting this to BookCrosser ardachy for release at the Ipswich Uncon, the 2018 UK BookCrossing weekend of bookish fun.
Introductory page: Annie Dillard has spent a lifetime examining the world around her with eyes wide open, drinking in all things intensely and relentlessly. She conjures currents of magic and wisdom, illuminating the seemingly ordinary moments of a life lived fearlessly - as a breathless teenager, as a roving young adult and as a writer - with her unique wit, boundless curiosity and fierce, undeniably singular voice.
Whether observing a sublime lunar eclipse or a moth consumed in a candle flame, the trembling of lily pads on a pond or hundreds of red-winged blackbirds taking flight, Dillard's awe at the fragility of the natural world rejuvenates and inspires pleasure and heartache.
Precise in language and deeply meditative in spirit, this is a landmark collection from one of America's masters. A winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Annie Dillard is a formative figure in contemporary non-fiction and The Abundance a remarkable showcase of her enigmatic genius.
