I was delighted to receive this book in my Not So Secret Father Christmas 2017 parcel. It has been on my Wishlist for a long time and I know I am going to find it an interesting read. (It's an added bonus that it's a thin book so will be a fairly quick read!)

It was indeed an interesting read, but I'm rather sorry that I didn't enjoy it more. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, being fictional and not the (auto)biography I thought it was. I was surprised it had won an Award because I really didn't think it was very well written, It was quite disjointed in parts and there were many aspects of the lives of the characters which could have been profitably expanded, I thought. There was some beautiful descriptive writing, though, which was a pleasure to read.
