Later: This turned out to be a more Christian/romance-themed book than I'd expected - not my favorite genre, though this one was actually pretty good. For one thing, it emphasized the real challenges of a faith-based life, with things not always turning out the way the characters hoped; for another, there's a believable arc to the main couple's relationship, with the heroine having to outgrow some childish ideas of romantic love - and the hero having to make some changes in his own views.
This is the third in a series, but stands alone pretty well. The previous books focus on other characters, showing how the mixed white/Lakota extended family came about. This one is set in the mid-1880s, and deals with missionary work, the touchy subject of Native American rights vs. assimilation, and some devastating disasters - including smallpox epidemics and an infamous blizzard...
