Jodi Picoult has a shtick, medical/law/ethical dilemmas but I think she does her particular thing well. In this book she does the same thing that she has done in several books, each chapter is the voice of a different character, with a different font for each one, giving different perspectives on the same events. I like this because you get to see the internal monologue of each person, especially important with the character of Jacob Hunt, the person that the entire story revolves around.

Jacob Hunt has Asbergers. Now some have complained that Jacob is not a typical Aspie, but this seems like a strange complaint as there isn't a such a thing as typical. Others have said that he incorporated too many Aspie behaviours. I do know that Picoult did her research and could only base Jacob on the people on the spectrum that she personally interacted with. For what it's worth, I share some of Jacobs "quirks" and I do not have Asbergers, which is kind of what the book's premise hangs on. Is Jacob's crime part of his Asbergers and therefore should be pardoned, or did he have a complete awareness of what he did wrong and is using the Asbergers traits as a hiding device? Did he do it? If he did, why?
