Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI

I usually love an unusual non-fiction book, but this one took me about three months to get through. There are three types of story being told here, each with different levels of success. The majority of the book weaves dramas of the Osage murders and the search for/conviction of their killers (interesting) with the inner workings of Hoover and his FBI (very un-interesting). The last section (which is the best, by far) is a first-person narrative about the author's research and the meetings that led up to the book, and his subsequent personal interest that led him to delve deeper and uncover more murders and murderers.

This book documents a sad part of US history and I feel like it should be required reading for everyone, because it seems to be omitted from our text books. I loved the pictures and felt it enhanced the book. I feel the pictures were necessary to show that even though it read like a detective novel, this was real life and a lot of people got away with murdering and mistreating the Osage Native Americans, from their relatives to the US government.
I read this book for my online book club and for 2019's PopSugar reading challenge prompt; A book with a zodiac or sign or astrology term in the title.
