Tom Thomson Artist of the North

Being Canadian, of course I knew who Tom Thomson was. But I did not know much beyond the mystery of his death and the iconic pictures he painted. I enjoyed this look at his ancestry, his life, his work and came away with a desire to learn even more. I live in Toronto so could imagine some of the places he lived and worked. I have been to the McMichael Museum in Kleinberg several times to see the work of the Group of Seven (which, without a doubt, would have been known as The Group of Eight had he lived).
Bringing to the meetup today. Happy travels, little book!
I am looking forward to delving into this book. Roy McGregor's book "Northern Light" is I think, the most recent account of Thomson's life and death. We had a great meetup today, didn't we?
This book is a bit of a 'gem'....full of very interesting facts about Thomson.....that he paddled from the park to G'Bay and back - by himself - fishing along the way....high romance and wilderness spirit. Best part was discovering that a NFB movie ( about 20 min.) was made in 1944 about him - narrated by Allan McFie....a must watch called West Wind.....also one of his main paintings that went unsold for years.....
Great read - thanks.
